War
I am not a pure pacifist. On the other hand, I believe that in the 21 st century, if our species is to survive, we must come to view war not as inevitable, but as intolerable. I oppose the doctrine of "pre-emptive war," which if applied to all nations, would allow any country to attack any other that it perceives as a threat, and would lead to endless, worldwide military conflict. I further believe that war becomes necessary as a matter of self defense only when the good people of the attacking country relinquish control of their government to warmongers. Finally, I believe that there is abundant historical evidence that not only is war ineffective in combating terrorism, but that war breeds terrorism, and that war is itself a form of terrorism.
